Re: Question about vaccinations for older children

I post-pone vaccinations for my children until they are older than 2-3 depending on their verbal and motor skills. I know if you research you will find that the meninges? (I know that is probably misspelled) are particularly susceptible to toxins from birth to 2-3 yrs, when the spinal cord and base of the brain are more fully developed. Anyway, being that is the case, your 18 yr old should be safe. Also, meningitis is common here in America in college dorms. It has been estimated that most who get it have mild cases but the few who develope a severe case can result in death or at least lengthy hospital stays. I am not worried about my kids getting vaxes when they are older. Their bodies are strong and healthy and able to fight off just about anyhting. It is the developing bodies I worry about. I still get vaxed as does my husband. My first child was vaxed until the chicken pox at one yr vax which tore her up pretty badly. I stopped after that. Now she is over 6 and the vaxes no longer bother her (we just started vaxing her this yr for school) and my 4 yr old just got his first set. I am unhappy with them as they really cause him unbearable muscle soreness so that he can not even walk. I am going slowly and watching him carefully. I report everything! He even got a rash from his last one! He is due for one more and then good for a long while. I am going to let him get it but as usual with an eagle eye. Pray for us as I still cringe getting them done for fear of injury to my children.
