Re: going raw

I am by no means experienced in this diet so I can only give advice based on my own understanding and limited experiences.

There is a great website where you can type in all the food you eat in a day and it will tell you the % of carbs, fat and protien. I found that by eating only fruit + veg my protien and fats were at 9% and 7% respectively. By adding a very small amount of seeds [1/2 oz] it took it to about 11% and 10%. I don't think you need to have the figures exact but you should not exceed 10%, especially in fats to get max benifits. I imagine it would be easy to go over the protien limit by just eating veg, however if you play around I'm sure you could balance it out. Check out the site at http://www.fitday.com

I was also very worried about eating fruit and am amazed that I have had no problems. Something I learned about whilst looking into this diet is that there is quite a problem with sugars and fats. Something about the fats in the blood keeping the blood Sugar levels elevated for extended periods. By cutting out the fat you eliminate this problem and it seems to be a missing link for many candida sufferers. The fastest way to alkalanise the body is fruit. Disease and parasites and mould cannot live in an alkaline environment. My understanding is that if we can change the bodies environment the organs and systems will improve and the immune system will be able to fight off the candida overgrowth as it should do.

Even though this diet is giving me relief [the only thing that has done so] and seems to be working for me, I don't know that it will work for everyone. We all have our different needs. Although many people have gone raw for extended periods and fewer of them in the mode of 80/10/10, I don't feel it's a permanent lifestyle for me. I am also not sure of its long term ramifications and especially with the 80/10/10 I think it is a bit mad to live off Sugar for life [I think several long term 80/10/10's have had health problems especially with teeth]. I do think [I'm hoping] that it is a great cleansing and healing tool and something to employ on the short term and continue to include a large portion of raw foods with all my meals in the future. I am just taking it as it comes. If I don't feel good when I introduce cooked food I will stay with raw for longer or indefinately. I feel sooo much better than I did 10 days ago so I believe in this raw diet and I am greatful for it and all the people who lead me to find it.

I don't know that it will work for everyone. I am not trying to convert people or say that what others are doing is wrong. For me everything else I tried just made me feel worse. I am just posting my experiences so that it may encourage those who are already interested in this. I will keep posting my progress every few days if you want to follow it.

Good luck
Nicole
