You are following a diet that only a fraction of a fraction of people follows. That is, only a fraction of people eat raw foods and only a fraction of raw foodists eat such a high fruit diet.

The only possible people that a high fruit diet will work for are those that are slow oxidizers, people who slowly metabolize sugars. If you are feeling hypoglyciemic, Sugar buzzes, shakiness, etc. then this diet is almost assuredly not going to work for you.

Every long term study on diet and on primitive cultures discusses the benefits of healthy fats and oils. To dismiss these fats might be a very big mistake. There has never been a culture that subsided on a primary high-fruit diet for multiple generations of people. Some Persian cultures did eat a large amount of dried mulberries, but this primarily a seasonal thing and not something they did for the whole year.

Again, the ancients did not have the hybridized, low-mineral and super-sugar bred fruits that we have today. The Sugar content in fruits has dramatically increased in the last hundred years with improved breeding methods.

The real reason people get in trouble with healthy fats is that their digestion is not so good. After the age of 50, most people with a lifetime of cooked food eating have worn away their HCL supplies and also their enzyme stores, and have also congested their gallbladders with acidic stones and sludge.

The dry-skin flakiness and itchiness that you mentioned is a symptom of not having a good fatty acid profile. The itchiness can also be a symptom of inflammation, which can be a symptom of underlying infection: ie gut dysbiosis. The high-fruit diet can feed this problems and make them worse.

If you are a slow-oxidizer then you can make this high-fruit diet work for you. If not, well I would begin investigating a new diet. Also, are you measuring your first morning pH? If you pH is not in balance then are giving yourself 2 problems at once, an acidity problem that encourage proliferation of pathogenic microbes, and the Sugar that perpetually feeds them.

You can read more about metabolic typing in the book: The Acid-Alkaline Balance Diet by Felicia Drury Kliment. I am going to give you one brief except on how to determine your metabolic type from this book:

"Swallow fifty milligrams of niacin on an empty stomach. If, within a half-hour, your skin turns red and you feel very, very hot and itchy, you have a meat-eating metabolism. [Note, Gabriel Cousens would say you are a fast-oxidizer and need more vegetarian fats and proteins-- ie a high-fruit diet is not the diet for you] If you fell warmer and have a better color in your face, then you have a balanced metabolism. IF you don't feel anything, then you have a grain-eating metabolism If you want to confirm the first test, take eight grams of vitamin C a day for three days in a row. If you feel depressed, lethargic, exhausted and irritable, or if you are a woman and experience vaginal irritation, then you have a meat-eating metabolism. [or someone that needs a higher protein diet] If you don't notice any change at all, you have a balanced maetabolism. But if you feel an improvement-- more energy, better quality of sleep-- then you have a grain-eating metablism.

This test is based on the work of Dr. William Donald Kelley who was one of the original pioneers of metabolic typing. The raw food author, Gabriel Cousens, draws heavily in his books Conscious Eating and the Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine.

My complicated answer is to try this metabolic test. Also, you can do a metabolic typing questionaire in Gabriel Cousen's book 'Conscious Eating' to confirm your test. If you turn out to be a fast oxidizer, then this high fruit diet is not for you. Also, make sure you are analyzing your first morning pH. If it is off, then you have some work to do. Fruits are not alkaline for everyone, contrary to the common belief (due to the complex differences in the way that people process simple sugars). The only way to determine if they are alkaline for YOU is via the pH test.

Finally, since you probably won't follow any of my advice anyway you should consider putting a good omega oil blend in a smoothie. Udo's oil is a good choice. There are lots of good choices for oil blends. This should help your skin out quite a bit.

Make sure to read Rainbow Green Life Food Cuisine by Gabriel Cousens if you haven't already.

The high fruit diet is only corrective for a small percentage of people. (those that are slow oxidizers) I've conversed with a large number of raw foodists over the years and the high-fruit diet has had a damaging effect far more times than not. Initially people respond well, but over time deficiencies add up. The teeth are one of the first areas to show problems, as the alveolar bones are the most sensitive areas in the body to mineral loss.

Good luck with your diet quest! Never trust a diet guru too much.
