Re: define religion
Superduper,
You responded to the post "define religion". I get the impressin that you do not like religion, and you are a spiritualist. I was responding to three of your items in your post:
1)"spirituality says we go to god to lighten our burden"
2)"spirituality does not require us to make donations"
3)"religion says that we are separated from god and that we need "them" to make that divine connection"
You yourself said "spirituality says we go to god to lighten our burden". Now, you are saying you don't agree with it...My position simply was that since you don't believe/trust in God(which is the whole point of religion) but when things get tough you go to God "to lighten" your burden. That just seems hypocritical. Work out your own problems, don't go to God when you get in trouble, do it yourself, tho I don't think it will work out as well as when you ask God for help. But that's just my humble opinion.
As far as burdens are concerned, I'll have to disagree w/ that. I feel that they are things which are a part of life. It's baggage we carry, problems that we haven't resolved, concerns (not nessarily invald concerns) old hatreds, grudges, etc. Do they teach us anything?...Yes, and No. They teach that life is not easy. But they ARE burdens, and if we can lighten them that would be great. Noone said you HAVE to have this tremendous burden on your back. I have experienced first hand the awesome power of God to lighten my burdens.\
"If I do that I don't learn anything.
My 'burdens' teach me life.
My 'burdens' make me who I am.
My 'burdens' are my path which the creator has planned for me."
I think you are talking about lessons, or who you've grown up to be, or something. True enough our burdens are part of who we are, but they are not something we should strive to keep. We should be trying to unload or lighten them, then we would be happier.
God Bless
