Re: Dealing with old, encrusted mucous in the sinuses
I just meant to add 1 extra teaspoon salt to the amount you are already doing.
Afaik there are no hard and fast rules but as we discussed I do think that Dr. Batman was correct in that taking salt away from water is better. You don't have to be so strict with things, just add more salt to your food - done.
Then see if you are more thirsty, see if you then wind up drinking more as a result of this. 1 teaspoon can be spread through the day or all at once, whatever you body likes. You might find that even 1 or 2 extra tablespoons of salt works.
Yes a high raw diet can deplete vata.
Are you drinking 2 liters of salted water plus regular water? Is there anything aside from water that you would find more pleasurable to drink?
In the case of carrot juice, or fresh sweet fruit juices they should not aggravate vata, but always follow your instincts.
Better hydration will make *everything* in the body work better, not just hopefully nourish your mucosa. Mucous is mostly water so you will have more supple mucosa when you have more non-toxic fluid in the body.(non-edemic fluid)
A diet rich in polysacharides will help nourish healthy mucosa. People talk about the 'mucousless diet'. I think the high mucous diet is better, at least for vata. But a giant caveat here would be high HEALTHY mucous.
Take a hard booger out of your nose and put it in water, that's all the information you need.
I don't know how tall you are but 123
pounds probably is underweight. Too thin or too tall is a vata characteristic. I still think you need to eat more.
How long should you wait? Not long. Something like better hydration could be noticed in a matter of hours or days. I can feel it almost instantly when I'm very well hydrated. One of the reasons I mentioned tea to you is that ultra marathoners use caffeinated drinks to increase hydration.
I think one of the newest formulas is mainly sodium and caffeine.
But this is all too complicated, if you relax into your senses and eat/drink what your body calls out for this should happen somewhat naturally.
The small intestine is where most of the action happens with hydration. Underweight vatas will usually have some sub-standard function in the small intestine.
I draw your attention back to bright colored polyphenol rich foods/drinks.
One important thing if you are not naturally thirsty, or would only drink a minimal amount of fluid naturally then you are severely sodium deficient or you have a severe imbalance in electrolytes and associated hormones.
If I lived where you live I would probably drink a lot of coconut water.
