My Experience-Master Cleanse and P&B Shakes
First of all let me say I am not a slave to the book, over the years I have experimented and refined the cleanse to meet my personal needs, time frame and taste. Since the P&B question comes up so regularly, I thought I would share my experiences with it.
First of all, I strongly believe you should do
The Master Cleanse without any additional food or fiber for at least five days, a week is even better. The reason is that the lemon juice and cayenne seem to soften the hardened mucoidal lining of the bowel. When this substance is softened and perhaps loosened (remember the cayenne is an irritant and causes more mucus to be created in the intestines in many people, but this seems to help loosen the hardened material) then the high fiber shakes can scrape out the hardened plaque much easier.
I personally do not do the salt water flush any more because it affects my blood pressure, sometimes causing it to soar to dangerous levels. To
SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) or not is a personal choice, I just don't think the flush is worth risking a stroke. The laxative tea will clean out existing fecal material making a clear path for the psyllium. Here is another area where I go against the book. The senna, which is the active ingredient in most laxative teas is very irritating to the bowel, it can also cause laxative dependency because the colon begins to counts on the irritating stimulant to start peristalsis. I believe one cup of lax tea a day for the first 3-7 days of the cleanse is adequate for most people. After that a mild saline enema done every two to three days will clear the lower bowel of toxic waste. Once again, this is based on my experience, each individual needs to do what works best for their needs.
When you are ready to begin with the shakes, start slowly. For the first couple of days take one teaspoon of psyllium powder and stir into water or the lemonade. Drink it down quickly before it thickens, then follow with 8
ounces of water. Be sure and drink 4-8
ounces of water every half hour when you are using psyllium. Psyllium will absorb about 40x its weight in water. This causes it to expand and "sweep" the intestinal walls. When the material lining the walls has been softened by fasting, it will slough off much faster and easier. I cannot stress enough that drinking water regularly is the key to successfully using psyllium; chugging a lot of water all at once will not help, water needs to be sipped throughout the day.
On the third day of the P&B cleanse add a tablespoon of liquid
Bentonite to the "shake".
Bentonite works by adsorbing (as opposed to absorbing) toxins, this is it binds toxins to itself. Too much
Bentonite can be very constipating, I only use it once a day. It does not coat the bowel or fecal material with clay unless it is taken in excess. Bentonite simply attracts toxic molecules and binds them where they cannot be reabsorbed by the body, it works well, but must be used correctly. Once again-a warning-use only the minimum amount of bentonite, too much will cause trouble. Its better to take too little than too much. You can work yourself up to five psyllium shake a day, although three are adequate for most people. Most of the solid bowel movements will be primarily psyllium, after all it is largely insoluble fiber. Many of the movements will reflect the shape of the large intestine with bumps and bulges. These are called ropes. Along with the discharged psyllium you will also probably see strands of mucus ranging from white to black. There may be hardened fecal material that has turned loose from the bowel walls, bits of gray in either sheets or balls that is the shed lining of the colon, there may be
parasites too. The mucoid plaque may come out a little at a time, or as long hollow tubes either before or after the psyllium.
The salt water flush should never be done while taking psyllium. First of all the psyllium needs time to work its way through the intestines cleaning the walls. To rapidly flush out the psyllium would defeat its whole purpose. The second reason to not combine the
SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) with P&B shakes is far more serious. THe
SWF (Salt-Water-Flush) works best when the digestive system is empty. To take that large amount of salt water with psyllium in the system will risk the absorbtion of excess salt leading to potentially serious problems. If constipation develops you can use laxative teas, enemas, or, my favorite, magnesium oxide products. Magnesium oxide draws water into the large intestine. This will clean out the bowel. You can use
Epsom Salt (magnesium sulfate) to flush the bowel, but they are quite nasty tasting and I save all that unpleasantness for occasional liver flushes.
P&B shakes are a good addition to the cleansing process begun with
The Master Cleanse or its variations. Just remember that the P&Bs will work best if you fast for several days before beginning them, or if you fast 10 days first then begin your
Bowel Cleanse while eating a healthy diet. The real key is to soften the mucoidal waste before trying to push it out with the psyllium. Master Cleanse is great for that purpose.
