Re: Why is it that most people are not experiencing the abundant life? This is a song.

I see from Wiki that they are way off in many doctrines.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Way_International

The Way has a number of doctrines wherein they differ from mainstream Christianity:
Rejection of the Trinity: Unlike God, Jesus is not omniscient, omnipotent, or omnipresent.
Jesus did not exist before his birth except in the foreknowledge of God; at his birth, God created the sperm to fertilize Mary's ovum, and is the literal father of Jesus. Joseph and Mary married soon after she became pregnant with Jesus and had sexual relations after the birth of Jesus, so she was therefore not a "perpetual virgin" as many Christians believe.
In "Receiving the Holy Spirit Today", Holy Spirit is a reference to God, rather than a separate entity or person. This term is contrasted with the "holy spirit" (lower case), which is a reference to a divine gift from God.[25] Wierwille claims that English translators of the Bible missed this distinction, and that Greek manuscripts were written in uncial script, which further confused the subject.
There are nine manifestations of the holy spirit and every born again Christian can inherently operate all nine. The list is derived from I Corinthians 12:7–10 (King James Version). Speaking in tongues, energizes the "effectual operation" of the other eight manifestations. Speaking in tongues has numerous benefits for a believer.
There were four people crucified with Jesus, (on a Wednesday) rejecting the standard interpretation which holds that there were two. Different Greek words were used for those crucified with Jesus in the different Gospel accounts, as well as discrepancies in timing, statements, and actions of the characters in the narrative. Two malefactors (kakourgoi) were initially led and crucified with Jesus in Luke 23:32, then two robbers (lestai) were later crucified after his accusation was fastened in Matthew 27:38. Accordingly, two others were crucified on both sides of Jesus for a total of four.
The cross upon which Jesus was crucified was not the traditional t-shaped cross, but rather a stake or the trunk of a tree.[26][27]
Jesus did not carry his cross for any distance. Rather, after leaving the judgment hall, the soldiers immediately compelled Simon of Cyrene to bear the cross all the way to Calvary per the three Gospel accounts in Matthew 27:32, Mark 15:21 and Luke 23:26. The one account in John 19:17 which states "And he bearing his cross...", Wierwille believes refers to Jesus's spiritual bearing of sin.[28]
The "thorn in the flesh" in 2 Corinthians 12:7 is individuals sent by Satan to disrupt the apostle Paul's ministry, not an illness as it is commonly interpreted.
The dead do not immediately go to heaven or hell, rather death is a continuing state which will end at the tribulation.[29][30] Wierwille also writes that the unsaved simply "die a second and final death." Way followers reject water baptism, holding that it wasn't intended as a continuing practice after Pentecost, and that it applied only to Israel.[31]
Once a person is born again, they receive holy spirit and cannot lose it through any sinful acts.[32]
Tithing 10% of one's net income to the church is a minimum requirement[citation needed], taking the example from Abraham's donation to Melchizedek, as well as the instruction in Malachi 3:7-12. Additional voluntary giving is called "abundant sharing", and "plurality giving" refers to the donation of any excess items the owner feels he no longer needs or has too many of, generally within fellowships to help the other members. Wierwille included his booklet on abundant sharing, Christians Should Be Prosperous, in his Foundational Class materials. Martindale frequently promoted increasing one's proportion of giving in Sunday teachings.
Extreme forms of unusual or destructive behavior (i.e., violence, verbal outbursts, alcoholism, homosexuality, drug abuse, mental illness) are evidence that an individual is possessed by a "devil spirit". A "devil spirit" is equivalent to a demon in most other Christian cosmologies. The Way teaches that believers have the power to cast out devil spirits but should only do so if given divine revelation to do so.
The exact date and time of the birth of Jesus is determined by their research as September 11, 3BC, further narrowed down to a 90-minute window
The Way teaches that "Believing Equals Receiving". This doctrine holds that a believer will experience prosperity and happiness in proportion to the level to which they take action to receive those things. Any negative experiences a believer has are in portion attributed to a lack of belief, if not fear, on the part of the believer. However they believe that the adversary, the devil, can and does attack without compulsion. The Way defines believing by acting on the Word. Believers are encouraged to make positive confessions about what they would like to see come to pass rather than focusing on the negative possibilities. In prayer God is thanked for fulfilling what His Word says rather than begged for what they would like to happen. An example would be - "Thank you God for healing me of my illness and providing me with a new job where all of my needs will be met as Your Word promises." Believers are encouraged to think positive thoughts and express a positive attitude. The result of this practice is that believers are less likely to fall victim to doubt, worry, or fear. The Way teaches that fearful thoughts can be an open door for maladies such as illness, economic hardship, relationship difficulties and, potentially, death as a result.
Other Practices[edit]
Debt[edit]
In the mid-nineties, The Way began to teach extensively on debt, taking a position that God's will was for a believer to have no debt, including car loans and mortgages citing Proverbs 22:7: "The borrower is servant to the lender" and Romans 13:8: "Owe no man any thing." Eventually it became a requirement for all active Way Corps to be debt-free. A prerequisite for enrollment in the Advanced Class on the Way of Abundance and Power and various "Advanced Class Specials" was that the student be debt-free. Participants in fellowships were encouraged to get or stay out of debt.
Abortion[edit]
In contrast to Evangelical and Roman Catholic Christians, The Way teaches that abortion is not murder as a fetus does not have "breath life" and, therefore, does not have its living soul until it takes its on breath when born.
Beliefs on Jews[edit]
As of the late 1980s, graduates of the The Way's Advanced Class were encouraged to read the books The Thirteenth Tribe by Arthur Koestler and Did Six Million Really Die? by Richard Verrall,
The Thirteenth Tribe argues that most modern day Jews are descendants of the Khazars who were a people in modern-day eastern Turkey who converted to Judaism in the 8th Century and their descendants became the Ashkenazik Jews of Europe. The book concludes that, therefore, most modern Jews are really "imposters". It is not clear if The Way subscribes to the correlative theory of British Israelism. See also - Khazar theory of Ashkenazi ancestry.
At its Advanced Class 1979, held on the campus of Ohio University in the summer of 1979, The Way for the first time and continually thereafter until the collapse of The Way in 1986, beginning with Geer's revelatory "last will and testament' ascribed to Wierwille's "sharings" with Geer during his final trip abroad, which was to Scotland, to see Geer and the new European Headquarters in Gartmore. The trip occurred one month prior to Wierwille's death in May, 1985. AC '79 was the first time Wierwille had ordered that the John Birch Society publications, "The Myth of the Six Million", "The Hoax of the Twentieth Century", and "None Dare Call It Conspiracy" were all to be sold publicly at all Way Bookstores. This prompted The Anti Defamation League and The B'Nai Brith to include Wierwille and The Way International on its list of anti-semitic hate groups. That just simply angered Wierwille even more and he tried to make an issue out "The Jews" discrimination against The Way because it is a Christian "ministry" which was speaking nothing but "truth and facts" about the Nazi Holocaust during WW II against the world's Jewish populations. He actually made the statement to his Way Corps that, "The USA fought on the wrong side" in WW II! This caused some rumbling among the Way Corps and various areas around the country where The Way had local fellowships in urban areas with "lots of Jews" in them. The opinion of many Way followers in these areas agreed with The ADL more than Wierwille.
Smoking and drinking[edit]
Unlike most Bible-based Christian sects, The Way is very tolerant of smoking and drinking. They recommend a "two drink" limit for leaders. However, those participating as active Way Corps do not partake in any tobacco products.
Mark and Avoid[edit]
As a general practice, it is not commonly done, however "mark and avoid" means the individual is not allowed to talk with, meet with, or attend fellowship with people within "The Way" until that individual repents of their supposed wrong doing. In some cases it is family members and children not being allowed to talk with other family members. (See Parental Alienation) The Practice is taken from the Book of Romans 16:17-18, and was taken to its extremes by Martindale after coming out of what he described as "The Fog Years", 1986-1989.
Beliefs on Homosexuality
."The Way" believe that homosexuality is a choice. They reject the idea that homosexuality is genetically determined and believe that it causes "confusion in the hearts of many people".[33] Through the Bible, "The Way" say that God teaches that homosexuality is a sin, citing Leviticus 18:22 "Thou shall not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination".[33] If homosexuality were genetically determined "then a homosexual would be destined by God to a lifetime of error and sin”.[33] In addition, "The Way" believe God made man and woman to be together and to only have sexual relations with one another. Further, when a man or woman ignore the words of God then they become trapped by the Devil. This culminates with every homosexually being "possessed by homosexual devil spirits (demons)". Martindale classified these "homo spirits" as the "lowest of the low on the totem pole of devil spirits". He became famous for screaming wildly with language full of expletives about "the homos", and "the jews" at every Way Corps meeting and even their Sunday Night Service tapes. The quotes are too graphic, and obscene to quote here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Way_International
