Re: Update: Bad news! Appreciate any help
Please try the aduaphor method that we talked about before. Keep applying it making sure there is a good layer on it when you brush your teeth, as the toothpaste will irritate things.
I apply the aquaphor about 3-4 hours before I go to sleep, and immediately after I brush in the mornings. I suppose I could apply before brushing in the morning time and see how it goes.
I actually came back from my dermatologist appointment this morning and he confirmed that what I was doing was the right thing and said that my logic and approach was right. I told him about daniel miller's story and he again warmed to the approach daniel took, saying that he obviously had maintained very good care of his lips for long enough to allow the skin barrier to heal up. The dermatologist confirmed what daniel had learned, in that the lips will take much longer to heal if at all, due to all the environmental stimulates + the irritatant in food/water + toothpaste. These things are NOT causing the problem, they ARE irritating the wound. It's a wound.
We have to remember here that this is an extremely sensitive layer of skin, which is why the lips are trying to form such a thick scab. Please take my advive on this and promise me you will try the aquaphor method. I am a few weeks into this method now but unlike before I am being consistent with it and trust it is the right approach.
