Update: Bad news! Appreciate any help

So last night I applied Avalon Organics Vitamin C Renewal Lip Balm before I slept to see if it would help. Upon applying it, it did stop my dry lips even as I awoke but I'm guessing I was subconsciously licking it or something during my sleep?

Because as you can see in the pic below, it's starting to crust/flake whatever it is! But actually I also wet them prior to taking a pic so I can show the flakes better. You can see it's starting to get worse and reform some kind of "scab" again and it worries me. What I do is I try my best to avoid them getting wet as much as possible but they get so dry thatit feels so unnatural.

Is it now time to buy some real moisturizer like Aquaphor or Bepanthen? Is it bad if I rub them aggressively like I used to? I rubbed them when I first got this condition because it makes them look 'neat' but they do regrow white again in the next few days. It is sooo tempting. I'll try applying petroleum to see if anything goes bad.

I still have not yet accepted the fact that I have to live with this forever, and I know you guys might say it's not as bad as others but it seems to me that it will eventually get bad no matter how you try to manage it. I've been more depressed lately and probably suicidal now.
