there is a parasite of rats/mice (toxoplasmosis?) that causes them to engage in atypical risky behaviour so that they will then be more likely to get caught by a predator, which then spreads the parasite.

also its thought that bacteria in the gut are influencing food choices. maybe causing fat people to remain fat.
