Re: Dry eye relief from eating lot of cake. How to understand this?
I totally think cravings are what your body is demanding. But there is a fine line between what body is demanding and what the pleasure/reward center is demanding. The pleasure/reward center in our brain is called the nucleus accumbens, long-term stimulation of the pleasure center drives the process of addiction... When you consume any substance of abuse, including sugar, the nucleus accumbens receives a dopamine signal, from which you experience pleasure. And so you consume more. The problem is that with prolonged exposure, the signal attenuates, gets weaker. So you have to consume more to get the same effect -- tolerance.
This is a vicious cycle. It is a very difficult process to figure out what is real craving and not the demand from addicted reward center, which is, no doubt very powerful. I too, fall for this trap. But through experience I have learned that when I feel like eating something sweet it is my reward center and I try some protein first, if it does not satisfy me I choose natural sugars like fruits, dates, berries, etc.
Cardiovascular exercise and black coffee are known to have a positive effect on the the reward center by replacing the cravings from sugar.
I am sorry I miss-read your post about high pressure.
Did you have same feeling of getting more watery or less dry eyes after eating the cake again?
I am so sorry to say that cake is junk food and I do not know if there are any benefits that outweigh the toxins that get added by highly processed foods.
