Re: Dry eye relief from eating lot of cake. How to understand this?

A few years back, my eyes were so dry, I kept getting eye infections--the medicine drops the eye specialist gave me would stop the infection for a while, but not very long--it just getting reinfected. Man that hurt---couldn't stand to go outside even, cuz my eyes would hurt so badly from the bright light. And then my left Achilles tendon started to get really tight, feeling like it was going to tear itself.

I remember I looked up dry eyes here, even though it hurt to look at the screen. Fairly quickly, (thank goodness)I found a small little post that said a gal had gotten rid of her eye problems by putting a tiny bit of olive oil on the lower lid and blinking to spread it around. Not much else. I thought heck, what could it hurt--olive oil is pretty harmless right? I got some that afternoon, and put on a little bit, like she said--my eyes immediately felt better--not perfect, but enough that I could drive and I went right to the health food store, and asked what they might have for eye infections--she led me to this rue-fennel eye wash which I started using the minute I got home. In a couple of days my eye infection was just a bad memory.

Now, if my eyes start to feel even a little dry, a bit of olive oil and no more problem. It's actually been years since I felt the need to use it. I was later reading the label on the medication and was shocked to read one of the side effects was ruptured tendons. And the Achilles tendon was where it was settling in me! From an eye drop--sheesh.

That's one of the reasons I've come to distrust ANY pharmaceutical---they ALWAYS have some horrid side effect. I suppose I should be glad it didn't kill heart muscles or something! And it didn't even work in any real way--also another scam they run--you have to keep buying more. *ack*

So you might want to give olive oil a try yourself. It naturally restores the protective moisture barrier that tends to thin out as we grow older. All that time suffering (nearly a month) and all I needed was a touch of olive oil. Did the eye 'specialist' even say word one about olive oil? Nope, no profit in that. Of course he wanted to put those plug things in my tear ducts.
