I was diagnosed with strongyles, first from my mom who is a retired lab tech and vet asst (skin test). it was confirmed twice from an active vet friend of hers (stool test), then an elisa test was preformed from my gen pract(positive) at my moms request . I went to specialists for 2 years a chief dermatologist , and tropical disease gastrointestinal specialist(my old doctors april 2012 to may 2014 ) who both concluded i had a protozoa of unknown origin and they prescribed me flagyl and prednisone , they gave me stage 5 strongyloidiasis according to my general practicioner , my general practicioner(my new doctor since june 2014) knows everything I am taking and is very pleased with my recovery. the itchy butt that remains is perianal autoinfection from encysted strongyloides coming out of my intestinal lining or elsewhere(trying to reinfect) and then dying shortly after they have had their first meal . according to vets , strongyles (the encysted ones) can last for up to 36 months, so you are correct that I am not fully healed as I have up to another 2 years of encysted ones. I am doing great as I am down to my last stage of this disease. Any comments I would be glad to reply
