Re: Christian chaplain fired for preaching compassion and love over violence of American Sniper
"It will be interesting to see if christians who have led a protected life will be able to stay "joyful" in the midst of the evil that is in the world."
that evil is already in them and been their bosom buddy since birth. that they do not recognize it is a problem.
i notice a great error in thinking in the world. people think one sin is worse than another. i see only two basic differentiations made in scripture - the unforgivable sin blaspheming the holy spirit and harming children. this is not including the actual laws of moses where death was not the judgement.
i am with david:
Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the LAW of the Lord;
and in his LAW doth he meditate day and night.
look at the prohibition on men having sex with men (notice NOTHING is said about women touching each other). what is this sin? why is it a sin?
well, there are lots of reasons. all of them. except the consequences the lord guarantees, can be mitigated to some degree. and what makes this sin a death sentence? it is the sin of licentiousness, lasciviousness - it is nothing but fornication. same as hetero fornication. same as lusting in your heart after anyone you shouldnt. same as there is not a human on earth thats not guilty.
there is no little sin. people murder all the time by wishing a person didnt exist or ostracising them as if they dont. they steal all the time, from god and everyone around them. any time you dont do like you would want if it were someone else doing it to you or yours(things or people), no matter what kind of pass you give yourself or lame excuse you can come up with, you are walking according to the flesh. think the guy who has every hair numbered on ya can tell if youre faking it? you betcha.
so this stuff is always there in everyone. we are told the way to life is to die to self, to put away the desires and even some of the needs of the flesh. it matters not if its a tiny seed or in full bloom, its gotta be ripped out by the roots. thats just a little of what it means to walk in the narrow way. if you dont make gods priorities your priorities youre either a bumbling fool or a rebellious child. both are in trouble.
