DRAMATIC Onset of Symptoms
Can you think of anything else that changed?
I have not been hearing about major "crashes" in the detox groups from smoking marijuana. I'm not suggesting it is a beneficial practice, although there seems to be benefits from oral consumption as an herbal.
I've heard of far too many crashes from people with a heavy metal problem that consumed generous amounts of cilantro or alpha lipoic acid. A close friend had it happen when ALA was added to a new formulation of her multivitamin. We had to get her to a functional med doctor for hormone balancing that resulted in hydrocortisone, doubling her dose of pregnenolone, etc. It took over a year for her to really regain what she lost from 10 days of the new multi.
I've heard a number of reports from people who had a major setback after having dental work done on silver-mercury
Amalgam fillings. However I don't know how often it is as dramatic as what you describe. My impression is that the effects take a bit more time.
Some people report a major setback after getting Lyme or something similar. Dr Mark Hyman comes to mind as an example. He wrote in on of his books that he went to ten other doctors before someone realized a mercury problem was a major factor. I assume his body was handling the mercury problem reasonably well until it also had to deal with the other illness as well. He describes his long symptom list in this clip.

I think you were wise to consult a functional med doctor.
