no, but the molecule can be broken into its components of potassium and iodine. it does so a little bit just from being compounded with water. distilled water takes on carbon dioxide and that makes it slightly acidic which promotes this process. thats why fresh SSKI is completely clear but soon takes on a bit of a yellow hue. this is normal.

oxygen also helps this process of breaking down KI. H@O@ is what the thyroid uses to capture and utilize the Iodine in KI. KI is exactly what the thyroid needs to make hormones.

thats my understanding from those who study such things and it is born out in my experience as well.
