i suspect that KI alone is enough. the Iodine docs found that the KI they were using was not good enough so they went with lugols. i think they simply didnt use enough. no way to prove that without volunteers.
SSKI 2% covers both bases. each drop has 600mcg of iodine. so about 30-40 drops of SSKI 2% will deliver, if taken in water only on an empty stomach, about the same amount of elemental Iodine as 50mg of lugols. of course 40 drops is also 1200mg of KI. frankly, i think that would work better than lugols. 50mg of Lugols and a gram of KI on top of it every day is ideal. SSKI 2% easily approximates that.
