The scientific method requires that guesses must be tested for truth, and L. Cordain's guess is a thundering great failure, as you write.
Raw zero carb has also been tested, and it passes that test, meaning that it cures. I was cured! But that's just more words, for you.
Really, if you want to know the truth about what is paleo and what is not, you must use a bullshit filter on everything you read, and then test the resulting diet on your dog, cat, wife, enemy or whatever, and if the result is glowing health or cure, then try it on yourself.
This is the scientific method. It works. It is DIY.
