Long-term use of ashwagandha - OK?

I find that even a small amount of ashwagandha (100mg of dried root) seems to make a huge difference in my thyroid function. The herb is said to increase conversion of T4 to T3. I have more energy, better mood, less anxiety, better quality of thought. Whenever I cut out the ashwagandha I feel noticeably worse.

Some doctors and herbalists (Dr. Lam included) advise people to take breaks. Lam says "Under a normal therapeutic dosage, patients do not experience side effects from ashwagandha. This means the herb is used for no more than a few months, with intermittent 'holidays' or days off if a high dose is used."

Other herbalists advise people to take it and do not mention breaks or "holidays."

CZ poster AdrenalSuccess has taken it long term and had no issues with it.

Any other personal experiences using ashwagandha long-term? Any side effects... tolerance developed... or anything to watch out for?
