Yes, I heard many stories passed down from that generation that spoke of abuses. You probably felt bitter and angry as a protection, which then labeled you a bad kid. No such thing as therapy to work things out, and in your case, you couldn't even go to church people, in fear that your dad would find out.
Is it possible that your mom came to a breaking point with all that abuse going on in the family? Sometimes it can be an easy way out for stress to blame it on someone else...kind of like how some people like relieving stress on a punching bag. It happens all over the world and there is no end in sight.
The name of Jesus gets punished along with the terrible abuse of a child, as though it's His fault, many times. However, we know that it's a person's free will involved that causes this kind of pain. Jesus forgive us.
