I was on antibiotics for over 2 years and never felt healthy after that. I never linked the antibiotics to my ill health and took another course of antibiotics for 1 month.
After this I lost 2 stone in weight and am now underweight. I began to experience lots of acid reflux , was diagnosed with a stoamch ulcer , gastritis and also H.pylori. Futher along I've developed malabsorption problems , joint pain , acne and many other problems. The H.pylori infection is now apparently clear and has been for the past month or so , I understand that it may take a while to feel back to normal but I definitely feel everything isn't covered and something is still wrong , especially considering I became so ill after taking antibiotics. A comprehensive stool analysis back in December found the following results.
* Zero growth of the benifical Lactobacillus species
* + 3 Alpha Haemolytic Streptococcus
* + 1 Coag. Negative Staphylococcus
These are two bacteria you wouldn't namely see in a healthy stool result.
Streptococcus is known to ferment large amounts of lactic acid and can give a tendency to acidosis.
The lack of benificial bacteria and readings of strepococcus lead to me to believe this is the reason I am stuggling with health problems. Cealic , chrons , colitis and all the other common digestive diseases have been ruled out and since I became ill after antibiotics this makes the most sense to me.
Antibiotics have literally wiped out my natural gut flora and left room for this " bad bacteria " to flourish in my small intestine.
I belive this is a form of SIBO and I may benefit ( unbeliveably ) from a course of specific antibiotics such as Rifaxamin or possibly a natural form of treatment although I've tried many natural supplements and diets and ended with very few or no results in the long run.
Streptococcus in paticular as mentioned is known to cause acidosis which could explain the acid reflux , the stomach ulcer and gastritis and the stomach inflamation in general. The overgrowth of this bacteria and the lack of any Lactobacillus could explain the malabsorption and weight loss. An allergy to microbes could also explain the joint pain, acne , prostatitis and frequent urination I currently experience.
Despite my research and determination to get to the root cause of my health problems it's very hard for me to find a doctor who can understand where I'm coming from. I plan to share all of my thoughts with my gastroenterolgoist the coming week but fear he may think I've lost the plot lol !.
Has anyone here suffered with anything similar ?.
Thank you in advance for any advice , comments or thoughts.
