Re: 3 Years of vertigo, loss of balance, exhaustion -- help!
It's been a while since I've been on here. So I've been diagnosed with Meniere's (along with a couple of other balance nerve disorders like bilateral something something and opsillapsia) and fibromyalgia. I also get nystagmus -- which is what I wrote above about my eyes going into spasms. So, like I described above, my balance is off causing me falls, swaying when I walk, probably look drunk at times to people, the attacks that the neuro thought were seizures are actually drop attacks caused by the meniere's, lots of pain from the fibro -- wrists, hands and fingers and the pain will radiate up my arms, neck and back, legs etc... mild to severe muscle weakness, exhaustion -- at time almost narcoleptic. For example, I woke up at 7:45 this morning and now at 9:30 I'm barely keeping my eyes open. After I finish writing this, I'll have to go back to sleep. My right wrist is in major pain writing, too.
So, when I ask the neuro-opthamologis what could have caused the Meniere's, he said, "Who knows. It can be anything. We don't know what causes Meniere's." End of conversation. There's absolutely no curiosity on his part. (ie, I'm on my own unless I want to opt for the surgery). Same story with the fibro.
I've asked all doctors about the possibility of me having Lyme and they ALL rolled their eyes. I did have a lyme test that came back negative but a friend with chronic lyme said that doesn't mean anything, that the type of test I had done is totally unreliable and have it done at a different lab. So I got a kit and brought it to my doctor, asked if I can get the order for the test from her and she said no.
I called a well-known lyme doctor in NYC and it costs almost a grand to be seen. I was hoping to just get in and have a test ordered but they don't do that.
