Re: Low norepinephrine?

"I don't feel alive - I have no emotions, desires, interests or even anxiety" - I felt like this for a couple of months after having malaria. This is a vata imbalance to the extreme you go even past the point of having anxiety and basically feel lifeless. I went back and read some of your older posts. I'm really sorry to hear about all of the problems you have been having. Keep in mind that it took you a long time to get yourself as out of balance as you have. It is a long hard road back from this point but it is possible. It is always possible to reverse any imbalances but you have to go through some extreme difficulty in order to accomplish this. For myself and many others I think we tend to try to avoid going through the really difficult healing and we don't want to accept the fact that it will probably take years to recover to where we want to be. It seems people want a quick fix, they want to find that magic supplement or that quick-fix that gets us right back on track. Unfortunately, the true healing only really takes place where most of us don't want to go. You have to go back through the darkness that got you here in the first place (I don't know if that makes sense to you). "Low norepinephrine/dopamine levels match my symptoms, history, risks and even genetics", this may very well be true but what you really want to know is what is the root cause? Why do you have low norepinephrine and dopamine, I'm sure plenty of other hormone levels are low as well. I understand what you mean when you say that your body has switched to only being able to respond by the parasympathetic nervous system. Most likely, your sympathetic nervous system has been over-stimulated for a very long time to the point where it can barely function anymore, but that is just a guess on my part. As far as whether or not to take the medication goes, well yeah obviously you want to get off of it but you also need to have a viable plan so you know you are going in the right direction. I would hope that yoga and ayurveda could be of help to someone even while they were on some medications, but it is possible that some medications may disrupt the endocrine system and CNS to the point where not much progress can be made before getting off of them. I really need to get more information and have more experience in this area, but I can certainly understand you wanting to be at least somewhat functional. For people like you and me and also I think many others on this forum, I really think we need to find a true healer that we can trust to guide us in the right direction. Unfortunately, I feel that they are very rare in the world right now but you can find it if you really want it with all your heart. Some supposed healers are based on faulty and incomplete Science and are mostly guessing, some are straight-up frauds, and many are just plain incompitant. I am also big into meditation and yoga but I have not really been able to meditate properly since having malaria, tons of accumulated vata makes it impossible to meditate or really concentrate on anything. If I were you, I would avoid most pranayama for now, except long slow deep breathing, bhastrika and kapalabhati breathing (breathe of fire) will do more harm than good. Kundalini yoga would be the absolute worst thing you could do right now. Slow easy yoga, holding the postures for long periods, lots of forward bends and triangle are the best.
