"the patient sits on a stool, the seat of which is on a level with the surface of the water; the water then being lifted up and rubbed vigorously about her hips with a coarse linen cloth. Vigorous friction is used in either case, using the linen cloth. This bath is continued from 5 to 20 minutes. After the bath, the patient is warmed by exercise, or, if too weak, by being put to bed."

This is not really the hot/cold water sitz recommended by MH on this forum.
