Re: feeding your dog just dogfood isnt a good idea??
Well Vinny,
its a long story but the base ingredient in all supermarket dog food is toxic. Its made up of rendered meat. This is all kinds of dead diseased cuts of meat that are not up to scratch for human consumption. Like tumors cut off the human grade meat, beaks feathers "called filler" there are even proven situations where the euthanazed pets have been added also. Complete with flea collars all goes in the mix. The drug used to euthanaze the animals builds up in the dog food. This mix is steeped in chemicals and dyes creasote and other chems so that it does not accidentally end up in your macdonalds hamburger. The law states that meat for animal usage must be denatured beyond a state that would be acceptable for the human market. So color it make it smell bad and taste bad then its ok to feed to your animal.
You do the math. ..does that sound like something that would keep your dog healthy. Most dogs can survive on it. But a point is reached in the genetics where they are just too toxic and then the problems start. Allergies and disease. Dogs are not meant to have an odor. Mine do not. They are not meant to have smelly ears or breath.
Its then preserved with even more chemicals and cooked at temperatures that kill any nutrients ..
Anything including science diet Iams and the stuff you buy from the vet is tainted with preservatives that are proven to cause cancer and also if the ingredients list includes "by product meal" its based on the stuff I mentioned earlier.
Etoxyquin is a preservative that is one of the main causes of cancer. There are new companies that make food from USDA cuts of meat. This is a better choice. Price will be at least four times that of store stuff. But you cant produce a decent base food for 8 dollar a bag.
its still dead food.
Best is raw meat. Finely ground veg and herbs to suppliment/fish oil. Raw meaty bones to chew. Makes for a happy doggy. oh and dogs should get a much higher protein /fat mix than what we as humans need.
The enzymes in the meat are essential to dogs digestion.
enough said.
Theres a good book "Food pets die for" Ann Martin to look at or check out the barf web sites will explain it all.
