Re: A "Wormy" Apple A Day Keeps the Doctor Away!
The thought of ingesting parasites does seem repulsive based on the common medical perspective and how that information has been disseminated throughout society. The reality is that we ingest parasites every day. They've always been a part of our internal ecosystem and have played a role in shaping our genetic tree.
As for studies, this is outside mainstream medicine, but it is well researched and gaining more momentum. The AMA position at the moment is the same as yours, so you are very much in alignment with the prevailing AMA opinion. The use of helminth therapy is considered to be in the field of alternative medicine, which may be what you're against.
For anyone interested in studies, you can view many of them here -

As a holsitic practitioner, I look to be open to ways that work best for people. If medicine were the way, I'd be all for it. Unfortunately, that's not the case. They are very opinionated and fanatical about their point of view, and closed to differing opinions. My point of view is that I can't be blind to what works for people, and I state that over and over again. If it works for you, use it. If it doesn't, have the wit to let it go.
Criticizing Helminth therapy as being part of the AMA is so off. Aajonus Vanderplanitz, author of the Primal Diet, is heavily in favor of it, and I don't think you could get any further away from moderm medicine and the AMA than Aajounus.
