Re: Unprocessed Trauma- Your Likely Root Cause
I'm NO expert but, from months of intensive research seeking answers to help unravel my enigma resulting in a candida as a symptom, the more convinced I am there is a direct connection between adrenal/thyroid malfunction and candida overgrowth.
This is in line with PSTD or stress from unresolved physiological issues contributing to CG through the stress response. However, stress is stress the body doesn't know the difference between good stress and bad stress either. So, it's not only bad things but, good events cause stress to the body as well.
The working theory in MY case centers around how once candida goes fungal either causing or due to leaky gut and gets into the blood stream a non healing feedback loop is created with the immune system trying to first deal with the mycotoxins in the blood stream (myco=fungus), combined with an immune response (histamine) from not recognizing the large molecule food particles entering the blood stream through the bored out pores in the wake of candida going fungal. Thus, almost everything you eat then creates an immune response to a perceived intruder (large food molecules) which it's encountering with every bite. In short order, the immune system weakens the adrenals which exhaust the thyroid and bammo.....all sorts of issues present themselves.
Almost without fail, anyone who I've asked who says they have allergies or sinus issues along with candida report they also have low body temps: a barometer pointing towards hypothyroid/adrenal fatigue. Many times they didn't even know they were suffering from low body temps. Since the thyroid regulates so many systems including the immune system and metabolism it's a up hill battle to trying to treat candida through diet alone while having overly sluggish GI motility which allows food to ferment in the gut creating a nifty environment for candida to overgrow only putting more stress on an already overly stressed immune system, weakening the thyroids/adrenals all that much more.
In addition, if one isn't very careful while on a candida diet treatment the body can easily go into ketosis, a stress response if you will to a no carb diet. This adds to the negative immune system/adrenal/thyroid feedback loop already on the fringe.
There is already malnourishment with candida, particularly with vits/minerals which help not only the thryoid function (such as vits, salt, iodine, electrolytes and even iron) but, the adrenal stress and immune responses also further deplete whatever vit/mineral reserves the body can access: even to the point of consuming itself.
I agree with how pH balancing (alkalizing your body) comes into the healing process, as well as supplements to augment what the body and diet are lacking (from iodine, to iron/ferritin, to salt, etc.).
Several candida protocols to some extent have built into their programs ways to address adrenals/thyroids such as
Sea Salt , kelp, etc. I would go one step further and include collagen to a complete protocol since adrenal stress responses (cortisol) can deplete the body's collagen.
Collagen is found in virtually all body organs, including the bones, skin, tendons, ligaments and cartilage. When this happens the first to show signs of malnourishment are hair/skin/nails. Collagen is found in virtually all body organs, including the bones, skin, tendons, ligaments and cartilage. The nutrients vitamin C and copper are of particular importance in collagen production and tissue repair. One can address collagen with diet/foods/supplements. One could see how a negative stress feedback loop shows up very visibly and not visibly with vital organs. Again, most candida diet protocols have some collagen rich foods and supplements included in them albeit it understated.
The point being, yes stress is a big factor with candida being a symptom. PSTD or any other emotional stress has an influence but, so does life stress, health stress, diet stress, state of health stress, malnourishment stress, stress stress...etc..Same with underlying conditions which have to be addressed with long term heavy
Antibiotics like Lymes, aIDs, HIV, TB, etc..or ones which require long term steroids., etc... there are many causes but, each in their own way play into some kind of negative stress feeback loop ...
So, yes I agree unresolved emotional issues take their toll on candida and could have contributed to a negative feedback loop being created but, by the time candida is a symptom, concentrating on ONLY the emotional/spiritual healing isn't enough to make much progress towards healing. Though, addressing emotional/spiritual issues (unresolved conflict, PTSD, etc.) might be something which without healing full candida recovery is impossible.
Food for thought...
