( I had trouble opening it in IE, but firefox opens it with no problem. Google chrome should work fine too.)
Since your blood test showed normal thyroid hormone levels and FNA result is benign the only reason they wanted to remove half of your thyroid is because the size? And it's causing difficulty in swallowing and maybe a little throat pain? Tell them the improvements you get from iodine supplementation and tell them you want to moniter for three months or six - when they don't operate on a goiter/nodules the common practice is periodical checkups and no treatment - "watchful waiting"- (at least here in the US) - usually goiters/nodules won't shrink or improve by themselves so there will come a time when the size is too large so surgery becomes necessary (from the CW doctors' perspective). But with iodine supplementation many people see improvements in thyroid goiter/nodules. It's absurd that CW doctors don't suggest this natural remedy and only believe in operations. Tells you how misinformation can lead to terrible decisions even with good intentions. (Grizz will disagree about the "good intentions" haha, but that's another story. Let's assume your doctors have good intentions and try to convince them to work with you on watchful waiting).
