Water Fast and Mercury Poisoning

Does Water Fasting help with detoxing heavy metals or must I chelate if I want to get rid of the mercury from my amalgams? I am currently saving towards removing my Amalgams because I am experiencing symptoms that did not get resolved through 2 Water Fasts - one 12-day in 2011 and one ~30 day in 2012.

Symptoms include Depression and hopelessness, memory problems, tip-of-the tongueism, constant low-grade headaches (not thumping/migraine style). I am 30: too young for the memory issues to be due to aging.

It is possible that some of these symptoms are exacerbated by consumption of salt and caffeine. I am a teacher and my job requires me to have a lot of energy, so I have consistently fallen back on coffee to be able to cope. I know this is not a good thing and it is something I need to work on. I have had little luck with eating no salt, too. I was hoping the 30-day fast would resolve these addictions - which is not the fault of the fast, but of me not breaking it properly due to a combination of complications I could not manage and bad preparation. In short, when I started my 30-day fast, I did not realize that a 30-day fast is not like a 12-day fast, only longer - at the end of 12 days, I could walk for about 30 min, for example, so I assumed at the end of the 30-day fast I would be capable of walking to the corner grocery store and buying fresh fruit and vegetables. I wasn't, so I broke the fast on salted canned lentils, which is the only thing I had in the house. When I broke the fast, true hunger had not returned. However, I had been vomiting for the past week. I know some nausea and vomiting is expected, but by the end of a week of vomiting I was unable to keep down any amount of water - I would keep vomiting, even when sipping. I was severely dehydrated. I was alone and afraid. I had to have a home visit by a doctor who was "worried about my electrolytes" and pumped me full of saline and some anti-vomit drug, and gave me Sugar water to drink.

This is the brief story so far. Advice is appreciated. Would a Water Fast have different effects after removing my amalgams? I am looking into having my Amalgams removed in October 2012, sticking to a mostly raw vegan diet between October and February to prepare, and doing a Water Fast during February 2013 - there is a 3-week vacation around Chinese new year where I teach.

Do you think my Amalgams had to do with how my long fast ended up, and do you believe this plan will be sufficient for detoxing the mercury after I get my amalgams removed? As far as salt and caffeine go, I am working on letting go of the caffeine crutch and dealing with my job anxieties, etc., but giving up salt will not realistically happen. A reduction, though, is feasible.

I am eager to hear your opinion - esp. the opinion of some of the more experienced fasters here. Thank you in advance for taking the time :)
