I get them wet all the time, the key is to dry them quickly afterward. I dont spray them with water in the shower becuase the water pressure would knock off the crusts. What I do is wait until I get out of the shower and rinse them in the sink. I just cup my hands, filling them with water, and gently rinse them in that (not long only a few seconds). After that I sit in front of a fan with my mouth open, to dry out the inside and outside of my lips. The fan has actually helped a lot, especially to keep the inside dry.
