Every time I read this article (quite often it seems) I'm struck by Shelton's almost throw-away comment "...beyond obeying the impulse to scratch..." which seems to say that if you itch then scratch. Unless it's a misprint, it's so contrary to popular opinion that it should have been supported better.

Do you agree that he meant "scratch" or am I misunderstanding this?
