Re: I am back, psoriasis update with water fasting
braindamage,
I'm forever amazed at the varieties of remedies that mankind has dreamed up which only seems to be limited by the number of unique objects that exist on this planet or that can be created by combining 2 or more of them.
I was quite shocked by the idea of oil pulling but then again, I'd already learned about the dangers of consuming oils other than those in their natural state (e.g. nuts, avocados, coconuts, olives...) If I'd heard about it back when I thought that virgin olive oil was healthy, I might have been less repulsed by the it. I have a greek friend in his 70s, diabetic and missing his gall bladder who still thinks that olive oil is healthy and consumes it by the gallon. I've instructed him on the errors of his ways but he chooses to keep using his poison.
It's great that you have stopped using the oils and now that you're fasting, you can start getting cleaned up and ready for a new start. If you can keep going for at least 2 weeks, that will be a good start but by no means a finish. 3 weeks would be better if you can manage additional time off.
Once you're refeeding, consider only eating foods that you desire and can eat in their natural, unfired state even if you do blend or juice them during the first refeeding week. I've just been reading articles by Nora Lenz (
http://rawschool.com/) and she really brings home the point that our tastebuds are our best judge of what we should be eating. I've heard this from several Hygienists although many others seem to quickly forget this and urge us to go against our senses and eat vegetables raw that actually require cooking to be palatable. For millions of years, our ancestors managed to evolve to such heights by following their insticts without the benefit of fire just by eating what appealed to them. I mostly do that but often eat steamed veggies that I couldn't eat otherwise and try to force down more lettuce than I desire. From today, I'm eating a lot of what I like and very little of what I don't and then only uncooked. You might do well to try the same tactic.
Anything that needs cooking to be edible, give it a miss. It's your senses saying "inedible". Don't try to fool your instincts!
Once you're back on regular eating, retire your juicer to the basement/attic/garage. Juices lack the all important fibre that helps the body moderate the
Sugar rush as well as stimulating motility. If you use your blender to make smoothies, it's not ideal but at least you still get the fibre. Your 21-day OJ fast probably did do something but won't have had the beneficial effects of a good water fast.
I fasted for 21-days to be able to gain weight and what I've found is that I gradually over several weeks regained weight until I reached the point I was before the fast and now, I'm neither gaining nor losing. How's about that for results!??? It either means that I have to fast for longer or my poor discipline after the refeeding period has resulted in the same problems.
My next trick is to get serious about eating only raw, succulent foods for long enough to see what difference it makes. I'm 5'11" and approx 146 lbs (10st 6) or 66kgs and reasonably attractive by my own standards (disregard picture above.) I've also started a weight lifting program so that may have an impact. If I do gain weight, I won't be able to say which made the difference but then again, I'm not a lab rat!
What I suggest to you is concentrate on being healthy and eating healthy and let your weight come with you.
I hope that this helps,
NH...
