You're not wrong...
Every time I've run into a problem, it's because I learn (the hard way) that I was simply not getting enough salt.
I put it into my water, and, here lately, even my 1/4 tsp per
quart just doesn't seem like enough. I can't even taste it anymore, so when I think of it, I think my 'stupid' take-out meal (just last night, in fact) helped my own edema simply because of the very-high salt content of what I ate. Double cheeseburger with not only bacon, but it had those very salty onion crunchies on it, too. High salt city! (Yeah, I know - DUH)
The trouble some of us also have is remembering that the potassium and salt MUST be balanced.
Whereas I don't know what the 'balance' should be, an (alternative-health) doctor explained someone's imbalance (stated on his or her labwork) the best:
"It's NOT that your sodium is too high, that's practically impossible. It's simply that your potassium is too low."
As I recall, that poster said he (or she) now makes sure to give into his (or her) potato and/or banana cravings when they hit, and he or she drinks lots of water now.
or something like that
As for myself, I now have ALL my day's water on the counter, to ensure getting it IN me. And when I eat, I'm liberal with my salt, too. When I have a craving, I either give into it, or I try to figure out exactly what is it I need, due to the craving. The other day I gave into corn chips, and they didn't taste salty enough. I should have realized THEN that my body is still screaming for salt.
Like Trapper said, when salt tastes bad, only then do you know you're getting too much. That's happened to me only once in my entire life...and I'M in my mid-fifties.
My blood pressure is always "textbook perfect", btw.
