Re: Struggling with Weight Loss
hmm
well I was just reading Dr Neil Bernards program for diabetes book last night and he talked of a study when they took young average weight people who had a parent or grandparent with diabetes and did a fasting glucose test on them and then put them on the following program
1 vegan diet
2 little to not fat of any kind
3 foods low on the glycemic index
They had found that even those they did not have diabetes or obesity they were already having insulin resistance which can lead to metabolic syndrome (high blood sugar, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and triglycerides) You do not necessarily have to have all of these only one to have metabolic syndrome.
When these young adults switched to the plan above they began to not have insulin resistance possible saving them a lifetime of future diabetes and the suffering it causes.
I feel knowing this info might help you. Allow me to explain what happens when one has insulin resistance...
The person produces insulin fine, their neuronrectors site are fine...he likens it to a lock and key both fine however, lets say we put gum in the lock..it jams it up so it worked work right and we cant get in.
With insulin resistance, it s like a working lock and key but it is gummed up not with gum but with fat...the fat makes it so the insulin is not useable or resistance..it cannot get into the cell and so it stays in the blood circulating and causing the dangerous high blood
Sugar and its resulting damage to tiny blood vessels.
Inside each cell, are mitachodria cells that are fat burning organelleS (That is a subset in a cell with a specific function--in this case to burn fat). Unfortunately, because the cell itself is gummed up with fat, the insulin the mitochrondria needs to burn the fat cannot get it and so it does not work.
You may have noticed that often people with diabetes are obsese and people assume the obsity caused the diabetes but actually, the insulin resistance they may not even know they have yet may be causing the obesity in a which came first the fat or the diabetes chicken vs egg scenario.
Bernard states although genes may be involved so can other factors like diet bring this on and that this diet can and has overcome a family history of blood
Sugar problems.
In many cases such as myself, I had at a normal weight decades before I was diagnosed with diabetes, gestational diabetes when I was pregnant and had to do one of teose ryapy glucose tolerance test like the test subjects had showing I would have been like them and their future if their diet is not changed may be like mine.
In several studies, Bernard and others did, it began almost immediately reversing the diabetes, insulin resistance and obesity even though participoants were told they could eat all they wanted as long as it was vegan, little to no fat and low on the glycemic scale. they were also told NOT to exercise so the diet along could be checked. Despite eating all they wanted and not exercising, they all lost weight steadily.
Mnay diabetics were kind of afraid to eat all those carbs as they had by doctors/nutritionalists been told to carefully measure carbs and so they tended to eat meat, chicken etc
Dr Bernard got them over this fear of carbs and starches by pointing out in China they ate huge amounts of rice and grains etc but had (as long as they stayed on traditional diets) very low rates of diabetes and overweight/obesity.
Diabetics even if they go on the American diabetic association diet, often eventually hear, the diet alone is not working, we need to start adding drugs.
If they get on the diet they can often prevent ever going on them to begin with or reverse/improve their situation with the right diet which Bernard outlines.
He also says pasta is ok as it is processed differently than breads and is low on the glycemic index.
Since you are already semi vegan you are almost there on the most difficult part for most people. Just go all the way, read the book on the little to no fat part (this is the same thing Dr Esselystyn from film forks over knives used to reverse heart disease (vegan, no fat diet).
also check out the glycemic index for which foods are lower --nearly all fryuits are ok but pineapple and watermelon.
if your meal is too high add cherries which are very low and an acid like lemon juice of vinegar to help lower the total glycemic index of the meal. Both Bernard and Esselsytn's book have little to no fat recipes, dressings, etc.
see if that helps.
another things to do would be to find some sida cordifolia (kind of hard to find)...this is a metabolism herb similar to ephedra that so many used to lose weight; however, unlike ephedra, this fat burning herb has none of the bad side effects of ephedra like hart racing etc. Both of these herbs increase brown fat.
We want brown fat as it is fat burning unlike white fat and as one ages, they lose brown fat and with it leads to middle age spread as one's metabolism slows down.
Finally in the book by Dr Christopher ( herballegacy.com ) called school of natural healing, he has an anti-obesity formula one can make using organic bulk herbs that he had great success with obese people when combined with the mucusless diet
http://www.herballegacy.com/Mucusless_Diet.html
Male a tincture with the sida cordifolia and one can add other metabolism raisers like green tea to it.
IN addition to this, I want to add they did an other study using people without diabetes and feed them high fat diet and almost immediately they started developing insulin resistance (which leads to obesity and diabetes) very rapidly..they were surprised how quickly that fat made one insulin resistant which rendered the fat burning mitochondria useless.
That small amount of non vegan foods you are eating might be the problem...go full vegan..and get that book by bernard that goes into more detail.
Generally juice fasting is safer than water fasting. You might want to go to torrentz and download the film fat, sick and nearly dead for what juice fasting can do and to motivate and encourage you.
You might want to get this inexpensive book by Linda Rector page

It is where I read about the sida cordifolia and brown fat. She lists six reasons for oberweight and how to trweat each one naturally if this is the same book I used to have which I think it is. I believe she probably still sells the weight loss formulas containing sida cordifolia and other metabloism boosting herbs,.
Also go here and type in things like obesity overweight weight loss
pounds and read the testimonies using the hallelujah diet (85% raw vegan whole foods)..more raw heals everything.

Dave the raw food trucker (see the videos I posted)lost over 225
pounds by switching to a 100% raw food diet (plus cured cancer, diabetes, and kidney disease) with lots of green juices,
juicing and juice fasting.
