Re: Anyone know why symptoms are worse at ovulation?

I, too, struggle with these symptoms immediately prior to ovulation and again prior to my period. My symptoms are consistent with many lupus symptoms, but then they go away other times of the month. I am seeing a rheumatologist, who has diagnosed me with low Iodine levels and low vitamin C levels, as well as a yeast overgrowth in the gut. I am being treated for all three of these things for the next month. However, I am still getting the joint pain prior to ovulation. I just don't understand what is going on. When I had the Mirena in, my ANA levels were positive. Now they are negative (it has been out for 3 months now). I have Raynaud's, as well. I have been tested for Sjogren's and Lupus, both were negative, although I do have the dry eyes/mouth. I was also tested for the gene that makes one more susceptible to getting certain autoimmune diseases... that was negative. I was also negative for Lyme disease.

It seems as if there is a connection between elevated estrogen levels prior to ovulation and menses and the joint pain/inflammation. But, what has caused this to happen? This doesn't happen in "normal" women. What did the Mirena do in us to cause this to happen? My rheumatologist has said that he has had other women in his office with similar problems from the Mirena...
