I understand. I didn't realize that you followed the methods of those folks.
You do realize that your example is saying the same thing, don't you? 1/2 cup of echin.a and 1/2 cup of echin.p will weigh the same. I prefer using weight. It gives more consistency when duplicating the formula. And more precision when dealing with the bio-chemistry components. It's all good. It's just that I speak a different language.
Also, I practice both western and classic Chinese herbology. Over the past 3,000 years, the Chinese have refined their formulas and processes to deal with grams of the items. It helps fine tune the compounding of the herbs.
