High dosage of Iodine?
Yes Guko this also interests me.
Recently I found an excellent nutritionist doctor.
In discussing my regimes my high intake of
Iodine came up. ~200 mg daily + supplements. (I have been doing this for some time inspired in part by this web site.)
The doctors comment was there is no need to continue that because after about three to six months you should be
Iodine sufficent. And high
Iodine causes thyroid cancer.
Taking the later point I can find no evidence to back that view. Does anyone know if high iodine causes thyroid cancer?
On the second issue namely why the high dose? I agree with trapper's comment a while ago that people appear to settle at somewhere between 100 and 300 mg daily. I am still debating the issue with my doctor.
I continued the "high" dose happily.
Taking your post:
""Besides, the mainland Iodine(inorganic)intake average from mainland Japan is about 13,6 mg (correct me if im wrong), however there's also bromide in those seaweeds isn't there?
That would mean the iodine actually utilized would be lower than 13,6 mg.""
Not necessarily. The usage/storage system is not known well enough to conclude that.
""The one with the lowest affinity (iodide) is needed in larger amounts to displace the ones with higher affinities.
But then why the heck is the increased excretion of toxic halides seen after about a month of supplementation?""
Again the same explanation and the answer to that point you have provided: ""The main point I'm trying to make is that there is alot of guessing since no one would bother to do research for an unpatentable nutrient.""
Trying to "second guess" this sort of thing is probably less wise than carefully examining people's experience.
