I will further add that 95% of water supplies are manufactured (e.g. municipal water, private wells, even water flowing over a stream becomes "manufactured" the minute you take it out of that environment and use it). You cannot change the fact that it becomes changed. I admire your idealism, but you conveniently omit man's part in nature and probably the most important fact of today --- practicality.
