making a decision is one thing, (esp. an informed one, self-directed); being bamboozled into surgery and then deprived of food and water is another thing. I doubt the man in question felt "inspired" from within to dry fast...

But Anne has a good point. Let us decide that he DID decide to dry fast...that would make a world of difference in terms of his experience.
