Re: Auto Immune Caused Thyroid Deficiency Opinions Wanted

Hi Glax,

thank you so much for posting this topic.
I think it is a great thing for us to be prepared for this question and I am wanting a lot of those answers myself. And as wombat mentioned Hashi's is one that can be multifaceted. So I run into myself on that one.....what happens if someone flairs up because I suggested Iodine. Should I push everyone to do a thyroid panel with antibodies before they start taking iodine????

I am an osteopathic bodyworker and I work on organs among other things in my work. So I ask women about their menses, ovaries, uterus, breast etc. and if they mention any of the potential Iodine defficiency symptoms I offer an email full of links on the subject of iodine. If their health care people aren't going to mention it then I feel obliged to mention it.

of all my clients that have taken I it has mostly been positive.

then you have that Chinese study which claims Iodine can induce hashi's, of course that is already addressed in this thread....at least the part of not taking enough I to make things work right to get one over the hump.

I checked in with and MD/Ayurvedic doc in my area about a mutual client. She is listed as an Iodine literate doc on the breastcancerchoices website. I brought up the idea of iodine for this client and she said she wasn't ready for it yet......in her experience. She went on to explain she was a real Brownstein devotee but she ran into trouble with Hashi's people, so she approaches it a lot with Ayurveda and says she has good results. Now, I don't know the details of what she was doing and I didn't feel comfortable pushing her on it at the time, it was the first time we had talked and I didn't want to burn a bridge....Hell, I don't see a ton of clients from a doctor perspective, treating all of that kind of stuff.......Maybe she is really good? Maybe she doesn't follow the steps with enough I and companion nutrients?????
But it is hard to sit on my high horse and tell her she is wrong just because I have had a dozen clients or so feel better with Iodine........

So what to do, I am still trying to figure it out for myself.......

I look forward to ongoing dialogue on this topic
