Re:I'm chimin'
Glaxony..
I would reply ALL to her message and include the link to Stephanie Buist's website:
http://www.naturalthyroidchoices.com.
As most know here, Stephanie is now thyroidless due to thyroid cancer. Luckily, she found Dr. David Brownstein and became a patient of his. She is an
Iodine advocate and even helps him with his research. Her husband has hashimotos and takes
Iodine and selenium to suppress the antibodies. The whole family is also gluten free -- which is also important for hashimotos.
As a side note...hashimotos runs in my family too. My mom and youngest brother have it. They both take iodine.
It is Stephanie's mission is to save as many folks from thyroidectomies as possible through awareness of
Iodine and hashimotos' patients who are untreated are more likely to develop thyroid cancer and suffer thyroidectomies. She has an iodine group on yahoo:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/iodine/
that you can post in your reply too.
Mary Shomon of thyroid.about.com is one of the biggest sites of iodine misinformation for hashimotos. Because with hashimotos, you have nodules, and a lot of the detoxing symptoms that you feel are in the neck and throat. Some report feeling the throat closing off. In reality, it is the thyroid expanding to accept the iodine and throw off the bromide. If you get these kind of symptoms and aren't aware of what's going on it can be really scary and make you think that either you're allergic to iodine (since anaphylactic allergic reaction involves the swelling of the windpipe) or that iodine is toxic. In reality, what you're experiencing is bromide detox symptoms and it can be managed by taking the iodine companion supplements, doing the salt loading to flush out the bromide and pulse dosing the iodine (stopping iodine supping temporarily while continuing the salt loading) and even dropping back the iodine dose and going slower. True allergy to iodine is quite rare. In fact people who are sure that they are allergic to iodine are probably allergic to the contrast dye used in medical procedures.
Here's another good link for iodine companion supplements and bromide detox symptoms;
