Re: Thalidomide

Actually a success story for the FDA. It was NOT approved by the FDA in the United States way back about 50 years ago. It was only released in Europe for prescription use by less strict regulatory agencies. The events surrounding Thalidomide were responsible for considerable changes in the way drugs are tested. Whole new protocols for drug testing were instituted by the FDA to closely assess the potential effects on pregnant women. Yes, Thalidomide - actually related derivatives - has been tested for other conditions of late. The use is carefully controlled and there are ample warnings about side effects and the severe risk to pregnant women. There a number of other drugs in use that are tetragenic but they are likewise controlled and not given to pregnant women.

After some research, I see that a little Radio Shack toy like the zapper probably can't really do much harm with only a 6 volt battery - Even when someone is pregnant. Maybe direct application of 6 volts could kill a worm or two but the human body isn't a very good conductor so killing parasites all over the body isn't very plausible. I cannot fathom how using a zapper could really do anything.
