They cannot determine if there is cancer simply by doing an X-ray or scan. Confirmation requires a biopsy.

As I was reading your description the first thing that came to my mind was some of strangulation either in the intestines or from the hiatal hernia.

You need to get the X-rays or scan results and take them to another doctor that knows what they are doing immediately.  If this is a strangulation this is very serious and needs to be addressed immediately.
