Re: Magnesium.......

Hi Prettysoulful and Telman,

Interesting stuff.

"I believe that the salt form affects how easily the body separates the magnesium from the carrier which would then affect bioavailability. Mg stearate is nearly inseparable and thus is often used as a supplement filler. Mg sulfate is easily separated..."

"Ionized magnesium may cause diarrhea in many users..."

The implication seems to be that the more bio-available, the more rapid the duct-relaxing and gut-emptying effect will be.

Elsewhere on this board the idea has been discussed that a thorough gut-emptier needs to be used by those who might have sluggish bowels so there is no 'back-pressure' of material in the gut preventing the movement of matter from the GB into the gut. Epsom Salts /magnesium sulphate certainly fits the bill here.

BUT Magnesium Sulphate has, on me at least, a very violent, even explosive, effect. It seems it can also cause medically serious dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, as well as the less medically serious but still uncomfortable intestinal spasms, butt pee and so on.

I would have thought that it's worth finding a magnesium salt (or mixture of salts) intermediate in bioavalability between Epsom Salts and magnesium stearate which would have the duct-widening effect but with a gut-emptying effect that is gentle and thorough, rather than an explosive and potentially dangerous.

regards,

Marc
