Re: Jamie's new food revolution
or the kids know what these fruit and vege look like, and can name them, but have no idea how they grow, or even that potatoes grow underground and not on a tree. When the only place children see fruit and vege, is the supermarket, that's where they're going to think they come from, along with all the processed stuff.
My Grandson's kindergarten teacher, asked kids where common food items came from, 95% of the class had no idea, and the answer was usually, "the shop".
My Grandson got into trouble because he said that eggs come from the chicken's bum, (I suspect it was the word bum that got him in trouble), but the fact is he knew where eggs came from, and has even seen a chicken laying an egg. He was able to correctly tell his teacher that potatoes come from the ground, because he has helped dig them up. He knows how to grow spinach, beans, tomatoes, carrots and many more vegetables and fruit, and he's only 4 years old.
If there is ever a catastrophe where people need to supply their own food, I fear that most of the children today, and a large proportion of the parents, would perish, simply from a lack of knowledge.
