Re: Jamie's new food revolution
We have had several school groups staying at our hostel in the last month. The first group of 120 children were on a very strict no sugar, soft drinks or processed food regime for the entire camp. They were very well behaved and there were no sick children the entire week they were staying with us. They were given fresh fruit and vege for snacks, daily exercise, and were some of the healthiest kids I have seen for a long time.
Compare these children with another large group that were allowed to eat as much junk food as they pleased, and they completely cleaned out the soft drink vending machine. These children were badly behaved, would not sleep, fought constantly with each other, (hyped on sugar), and there were many incidents of sick kids, as in asthma attacks, allergic reactions, stomach complaints, etc. The difference was so obvious, and it was down to what they were eating and drinking.
I wish the parents of these kids could see the differences between their junk food addicted kids and the no junk food kids.
I think Jamie Oliver is doing a great job getting the word out about kids and healthy eating. If kids start off with good eating habits they wont end up as sick adults.
