I know those sun tea jars have tight lids but I don't believe they are air tight.

Yes, you should see bubbles of fizz within 24 hours.

I check mine sometimes and re-lid them with no problems.

Try a pinch of baking soda in the next brew. Maybe the crystals need a kick start!
