Re: How To Use The Eyebright Eyewash
The main reason I heat the distilled water is to help sterilize the glass eye cup before use. I don't always do this as it does add time to the procedure. Like Uny says, it can be done quickly several times a day....or like I says, it can be done less quickly. When I do it the long route, I put the eye cup in a corningware pot, pour in a few
ounces of distilled water to cover, then bring up to a low boil for a minute or two.... I guess you can consider me as being a real stickler for making sure the eyecup is clean. Then I remove the cup with tongs. This is a heavy duty glass eye cup, by the way. If using a plastic eye cup, I would advise against this heatup method. Anyway, after the eyecup has been in low boiling water a few minutes, I take it out of pot, put upright on a clean towell, put some drops of Eyebright in, then pour in enough water to fill the cup. I then wait about 20 - 30 minutes or so for the water and cup to cool....don't want to scald the eyeball! I usually do this method when I have lots of time to spare. When in a hurry, I do it the way Uny described, quick. The only other comment to add is that sometimes the shape of the eyecup does not fit exactly around the eye, and there may be a few drops leak out when tilting head back with cup against eye. Of course, when head is tilted all the way back, these drips run down, out of the eye and either down the front of face to chest and beyonnd, or down the side face to neck and down the back....either way those little drips run themselves dry by the time it gets all the way down into pants..... just trying to say these little drips can be really annoying :)
Uny, interesting you mentioned "... should not burn the way Doc Christopher said....". I guess I've been operating on a mis-conception here. I got a big bottle of eyebright from MH several years ago, probably enough to last me several years. I always assumed (bad Ohfor, bad Ohfor) that it was the same formula as Doc Johns. It does burn, and this only when using 2 drops in the eye cup per eye..... I just always assumed (again, bad Ohfor, bad Ohfor) that I was a wimp because me eyes burn when using this formula..... but now you give me reason to question what I thought I knew about using this formula.
