Very informative article.

Albendazole induced ruptured cysts:
http://www.ispub.com/ostia/index.php?xmlFilePath=journals/ijpm/vol6n1/cyst.xml
I did not know albendazole was helpful for hydatid cysts. I saw pieces once after a liver flush. It looked like a piece of a sphere. Good thing I did 3 rounds of albendazole, and another one later!
It states:
..Albendazole was continued in all patients to prevent potential risk of the dissemination of the disease.
..Another patient who had multiple cysts received multiple cycles of albendazole therapy and had a significant reduction in cyst size and had asymptomatic rupture of another cyst one month later. The patient had complete disappearance of the ruptured cyst. Another two patients decided to go for surgery.
..They concluded that conserative management with albendazole should be considered before surgical intervention even when complications occur, surgery is rarely needed if albendazole is continued following rupture.
What I read is this:
1) Albendazole can influence cyst rupture- which is good. It has to break up in order to be eliminated. The alternative is surgery, where they still recommend albendazole.
2) Patient with multiple cysts where one even ruptured had *complete disappearance* of the cyst. Good
3) there has been no report of dissemination of the disease following albendazole induced cyst rupture. Super good.
Like I said-its the 'Holy Grail'. Did I miss something here?
