Using exactly 4 tablespoons of water (which is 1/4 cup, or 2 fluid ounces), the 2oz mark on our Ball brand (wide mouth) pint jars is exactly perfect. (???)

There isn't a two ounce mark on our quart size ball jars.

So, were you having more or less than 2 oz? (not that "smidge" makes much of difference).

P.S. To everyone - please NEVER rely upon any type of large jar or other measuring device to measure small quantities (for cooking or "herbing"). Many times even a "one cup" measuring cup does not measure smaller quantities accurately. Tweet
